Letter to selected State Senators regarding the mimimum wage, March 15, 2005

March 15, 2005

Dear Senator:

The Lancaster County Democratic Party wishes to express its support for increasing the minimum wage and opposition to efforts to undermine existing labor and wage protections.

Recently the Senate voted on two competing minimum wage increases; however, neither was approved. The minimum wage has not been increased in many years and it remains at an historically low level. An increase in the minimum wage would be helpful to low income workers as well as the economy. When low income workers earn more they can spend more and the economy will benefit. Also, we oppose any efforts to eliminate wage and labor standards as a compromise to increasing the minimum wage in the future.

Thank you for considering our point of view while debating this important subject in the future.

Sincerely,

Thomas Green
Corresponding Secretary
Issues Committee Chair
