Letter to City Council Members regarding Living Wage Ordinance, February 24, 2004

Lancaster County Democrats
P.O. Box 83213
Lincoln, NE 68501
Dear Council Member _____________________________,

The Lancaster County Democratic Party at its last central committee meeting voted to strongly support councilman Terry Werner's ordinance to require a living wage ordinance for city contracts. The central committee supports higher wages for city contractors because it is in the best interests of both the workers and the city. Wages below a living wage level do not help the city in the long run because of costs to the city in assistance programs. The central committee feels that all workers deserve a living wage for their work, and that this ordinance will be a great step forward for the people of Lincoln.

We hope that you support and vote in favor of councilman Werner's living wage ordinance.

Sincerely,

Thomas A Green
Corresponding Secretary
