The Forums Committee seeks to provide an outlet for democrats to learn about & discuss pressing issues in our party, in our government, & in our world. The Forums Committee will facilitate four such events a year. These events will have a theme and a speaker. Therefore, the Forums Committee must plan for a date, time, location, speaker, food, entertainment, decorations, and staff. Further, the committee must organize its own publicity through invitations to officials, candidates, honorees, and attendees as well as e-vites, newsletter ads, web-site ads, and Central Committee announcements. The Forums Committee must determine the costs of each event so as to calculate the entry fee and/or sponsorship necessary to be self-sustaining. The goal of this committee is to plan events where the cost and income are relatively equal so that the Forums Committee is neither a burden on the Party's coffers nor a fund raising activity. These forums are beneficial to the Lancaster Democrats and our mission in several ways. Most obviously, forums allow democrats a chance to learn about and discuss important issues. Even the most passive attendee can strengthen their ideas, hone their arguments, and reconnect with the reasons they became democrats. More than that, joining together with like-minded individuals creates camaraderie within the party motivating attendees to become or stay involved. Forums also provide an outlet for the party to reach out to different constituency groups by sharing ideas and honoring contributions of the diverse groups that make up the Democratic Party. Finally, forums are an excellent opportunity for Democratic candidates to reach out to core voters and their issues. Additionally, the Forums Committee has taken on the responsibility of connecting the Lancaster County Democrats with like-minded organizations by ensuring a presence at the banquets of these organizations. Attending these events demonstrates our commitment to these organizations and our shared ideals. In addition, our attendance creates exposure for the Lancaster County Democrats. This exposure could lead to others joining our ranks, contributing to our causes, and working with us to further our joint goals. |
